Kumihimo - Japanese Braiding - SA

This beginner class introduces the art of Japanese braiding, known as kumihimo. Kumihimo is a traditional braiding technique that dates back to the time of the Samurai, who used these intricate braids to hold sections of their armor together. The term kumihimo means "gathering or combining cords" in Japanese.

While Samurai armor is no longer in use, kumihimo continues to play a role in Japanese culture, often seen in ceremonial pulls, tassels, and as clothing embellishments.

In this class, you will learn to create a simple necklace or eyeglass holder. In a follow-up class, I’ll teach how to work with smaller cords and beads to make more detailed pieces.

The kit includes instructions, a foam disk, spools, satin cord (enough for two necklaces), magnetic clasps, glue, and binding thread. You only need to bring scissors and a few toothpicks. I will also provide embellishments if you wish to customize your design.

Class Cancellations/Refunds:

• Classes canceled by Cut Up and Sew will be fully refunded to each student or, if preferred, students may receive store credit.

• If you are unable to make a class or event, please contact Cut Up and Sew 72 hours/3 days prior to the start date of such class or event to receive a full refund.

• There are no refunds for cancellations made less than 72 hours/3 days before the start date of a class.  Your class fee can be applied towards another class or returned in the form of store credit.

• There are no refunds on class fees for "Special Event" or outside teachers/classes within 30 days of the event date unless we can fill your spot with another person. 

• Refunds will not be provided for "No Shows".

• If you have a major emergency and need to cancel your attendance at a class, up to the time of such class we will work with you to either make up the class or provide you with a store credit.
