Bag Making 103: Quilted Zipper Pouch

Intermediate to Advanced Skill Level
Learn how to make this quilted zipper pouch. This cute bag can be used for travel, cosmetics or anything that you want! Completed bag measures approximately 13” wide by 7.5” high by 4” deep at the base. You will learn how to make zipper tab ends to create a polished and professional look. Grab those scraps and let’s get started!

Supply List:
- Enough scraps and pieces of fabric that will measure 4 yards long by 2 ½ inches wide for the outer shell (quilting cotton works well)
- Enough low loft fusible fleece or batting that will measure 4 yards long by 2 ½ inches wide also for the outer shell
- (2) 14” x 11” pieces of fabric for the inner lining (quilting cotton works well)
- 1 nylon coil zipper at least 14” or as wide as the bag opening (no metal teeth zippers or hidden zippers)
- (2) 14” x 11” pieces of sf101, light to medium weight, fusible interfacing
- Matching thread
- Sewing machine in good working order
- Zipper Foot
- Bobbins filled with matching color
- Scissors
- Pins, clips
- Normal sewing supplies
Before the day of the class, please cut fabric scraps into various lengths from 1.5 inches to 3 inches long by 2.5 inches high and piece them together. This will be one long strip that will equal a total of 4 yards by 2.5 inches. Press open seams and apply the fusible batting. See quilted bag picture for an example.
