Borders and Binding
Have you struggled to get the look you wanted when attaching the borders and bindings to your projects? Holly has mastered this art and is willing to share her tips in this class. The skills come in handy whether you are a quilter or one who likes to do home decor projects. Attendees will be provided with a kit to use for hands on experience to help master the techniques she will share.
Details:
You will be making a mini quilt during this class. Panel and border fabrics will be different for each kit. The focus of this class is construction, so border and binding strips are cut to the width needed for this project. This is an advanced beginner class but is useful for anyone who struggles with bindings and mitering borders.
What you will learn:
- How to connect strips of fabric to make one long continuous strip.
- Two forms of borders: mitered and square. You will choose which style to use on your mini quilt.
- How to attach a sleeve for hanging your mini quilt (optional)
- Stitch-in-the-ditch quilting.
- How to machine attach a binding with neat, mitered corners.
What to bring:
- Sewing machine and needles – it is required that you know how to use your machine!
- Black (for binding), white and/or neutral thread (for piecing).
- Pins, scissors, and seam ripper (our friend!).
- Ruler and rotary cutter.
Optional supplies (these will be used on this project):
- Adhesive basting glue (Roxanne is amazing)
- Adhesive basting spray (we'll use 505)
- 1/4" foot
- Edging foot
- Clips
- Chalk pencil - white & yellow/color to mark on light colored fabrics
