Tucker University: 1-301 Wing Clipper & Pickets & Quickets

Tucker University Overview

Have you ever wanted to be a better quilter? Do you struggle creating square blocks? It's time for you to enroll in Tucker University; let us help you make our quilting dreams a reality. Deb Tucker of Studio 180 design has created tools to make any standard units in quilting so much easier to construct. Each month we will take one of her tools and learn a variety of techniques for using that tool; you'll be amazed at the versatility and ease of these tools. Each month Pat and Cyndi will teach you how to sharpen your piecing techniques as well as to share opportunities for some block design fun.

We are sew excited about this 12 month program and tools and we encourage everyone to take the complete series of classes (and earn a free bonus class). Although the program is most beneficial if you attend each month, you can also pick and choose your classes; each is a stand-alone session where you will learn to use a specific tucker tool. By the end of the course you can pretty much take any pattern out there and convert the blocks to Deb's way - you will become a  block detective!

Completing all 12 classes will earn you a free bonus class.

IMPORTANT DATE: The deadline to register for this class is Wednesday, May 29th.

Class: 1-301 Wing Clipper & Pickets & Quickets

Quilters will conquer the ever-present flying gees unit in an efficient manner and with very little waste of fabric. These geese will no longer lose their way with the strong point and crisp lines that will be achieved using the Wing Clipper 1 tool from Studio 180 Designs. We will continue to use this tool to learn different methods of creating Picket Fence units. Once you begin to recognize these units, you will be surprised how often they appear in patterns from your favorite designers. Pickets and Quickets make great border options. How about connecting the geese with a shaded four patch, V Block or QST from previous lessons? The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Your class fee includes class instruction, laminated Tucker University Design Sheet and Pickets and Wickets Technique Sheet as well as new BlockBuster patterns. We highly recommend that you get a binder to organize all the great info and design sheets.

Other supplies required for this class may be purchased with a class discount.

Tucker Tools:

  • Wing Clipper® (we recommend adding Invisigrip is to prevent slippage)
  • Magic Wand (tool to mark sewing lines)

Basic Supplies:

  • Sewing Machine with power/foot cords and manual (as a convenience to you, Cut Up and sew has a limited number of BabyLock Crescendo sewing machines available for rent. Call the shop to reserve yours.)
  • Thread
  • bobbins
  • sewing machine needles
  • Seam ripper
  • scissors
  • Rotary Cutter and small mat – Be sure to try out a rotating mat at class

  • 1/4 yd of coordinating or contrasting fabric to the main, focal fabric

Class is easier if you pre-cut at least the following:

Geese:
  • (1) 5 ½” square of main fabric or contrasting fabric
  • (4) 3” square of background

Pickets:
  • (4) 2 ¾”x4 ¾” rectangles of main or contrasting fabric
